I served in the 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment and spent a fair bit of time abroad. I remember once a Brigadier asking one of the lads about being married and away from home and the lad replied that he had spent 9 months away from home …that’s a tough deal for any relationship and this song is about the inner strength that it takes to keep a person in your heart when their arms cant be around your shoulders.
